I am a first-year student at the University of Oulu. Ever since primary school, I have found my problem-solving skills quite good. When I was in high school, I honestly had no idea what I would study after graduating. I did my research and concluded that information processing was the most suitable option for me. I was thinking about some engineering programs too, but I didn’t study advanced mathematics in high school, so that ruled out that option for me. However, I have always been interested in technology and computers, which made information processing a natural choice.

In my short career as a student, I haven’t possessed any technical skills that are worth mentioning. I can write some beginner-level code, but I doubt my skills are worth anything to any employer yet. Hopefully, I am going to study a lot this spring and make the advancements I need to put myself out there. In addition to coursework, I plan to work on personal projects and online courses to strengthen my programming abilities and build a solid foundation for my future career.

The greatest advantage of blogging for me is the opportunity to market my skills as a developer. If I possessed exceptional coding skills, I could showcase them online through my blog and potentially attract job opportunities. Additionally, my blog could help me connect with others in the industry, which would be highly beneficial in the long run. Writing about my experiences and challenges as a beginner could also help others who are in the same situation, creating a supportive learning environment.

Starting a technical writing blog would likely enhance my skills as a developer. Writing about technical topics not only deepens my understanding but also helps identify gaps in my knowledge. Research suggests that writing reinforces learning far more effectively than reading or listening. Additionally, it encourages deeper research, leading to greater insights. When writing, I take on the role of a teacher, which naturally pushes me to ensure that every concept and step is logically sound. Furthermore, consistent blogging could help me develop a habit of continuous learning and self-improvement.

My English learning goal for this semester is to expand my vocabulary and improve my essay writing skills. To achieve this, I will complete self-study modules and write blog posts. Measuring progress may be challenging, but I hope that by the end of the semester, I can look back at this blog post and recognize the improvements in my writing. Additionally, engaging with feedback and reading high-quality articles will contribute to refining my writing style and expression.
