The best advice I ever heard is this: "You don’t have to be perfect, you just have to start."
We’ve all experienced the pull of procrastination, waiting for the perfect conditions that rarely come. But the truth is, progress begins the moment you act. The first step builds momentum, pushing you forward even when you feel uncertain. Each experience teaches valuable lessons, and mistakes are not failures but steppingstones to growth. The only way to improve is to try, stumble, learn, and keep going. Mistakes aren’t obstacles; they’re essential to mastery.
A writer who waits for the perfect words to come will never fill a page. An entrepreneur who waits for the perfect business idea will never launch a company. A musician who fears hitting the wrong notes will never play a song. The secret to growth is in doing, not just in planning. No one starts as an expert—every master was once a beginner. The difference between those who succeed and those who don’t is not talent alone, but the willingness to take that first imperfect step.
Progress is rarely a straight line. There will be setbacks, mistakes, and moments of doubt. But each misstep is a lesson, a steppingstone toward improvement. It is important to realize that imperfectionism is what allows you to improve and get better. Instead of seeing mistakes as failures, they should be viewed as proof that you are learning and pushing yourself beyond your current limits. Growth happens when you step beyond what is comfortable and challenge yourself to keep going, even when things don’t go as planned.
Whenever I’ve felt stuck and found myself procrastinating, I’ve reminded myself of this mindset: progress begins the moment I take action. No matter how unprepared or inexperienced I feel, I start anyway and focus on improving step by step. True growth happens outside of our comfort zones, and embracing that discomfort is the key to continuous improvement. The greatest breakthroughs often come from the moments when we feel the most challenged.
Over the past month, my English skills have improved significantly. My vocabulary has expanded considerably, and my essay writing has become more refined. Additionally, I feel much more confident speaking English with my classmates. If I need to communicate with a non-Finnish speaker in real-life situations, I now approach the conversation with greater confidence in my abilities. This progress has reinforced my belief that waiting for perfection is a waste of time starting, learning, and persisting are what truly lead to growth.
It is true that there is never a 'right time' to do things in life, and I think that people (myself included) should remind themselves of that more often. I have a bad habit of procrastinating, but after I start doing the task, I realize that it was not as difficult as I thought it would be :D Your blog is very relatable, and I hope to hear more from you! :)
